Something to do with Drowning [Code Geass; Rolo + Nunnally]

Title: Something to do with Drowning
Fandom: Code Geass
Pairing: sorta, Rolo/Nunnally
Rating: G-ish
Notes: Obviously an AR of sorts where Rolo, Nunnally, and Lelouch live together. In other words, this is just for fun. Also, unbetad-ish. Written for my nii-san and my imouto.
Summary: Rolo's forced to do something he'd never do if he had the choice.

The sound of waves on the beach was soothing as Rolo reclined on the towel. The trip to the beach had been his brother’s idea and Rolo had been glad for it except for one thing. One brunet, gentle, and frail thing that sat at the water’s edge, her damaged feet in the water. She said she liked the water, enjoyed the feel of the lightness on her skin, even though she couldn’t really experience it any more than that. Rolo had been given the task of watching over her as Lelouch went up the beach to fetch some drinks, and the younger boy was keeping his fingers crossed that somehow, she would drown.

Of course, he couldn’t let her drown on his watch. That would probably lead to his own death at Lelouch’s hands, the last thing he ever wanted. So with skills born of a child assassin, Rolo watched Nunnally and tried to keep from letting his desire to push her beneath the waves and hold her there until the air bubbles stopped rising from her lips from taking over.

Rolo sighed. Every so often, Nunnally would turn and beckon him to the shoreline, wanting him to come closer and be closer to her. She was always trying to pull him closer, to get to know him, wanting to be his family too. But he couldn’t allow that. Wouldn’t. Wanted to see her die with every fiber of his being. But she was beckoning him again. He ignored it and returned to the book he had been reading (one of Lelouch’s, wanting to enjoy what his brother enjoyed), but always keeping a trained ear out for her.

It wasn’t long before he heard her voice rise in a shriek. Rolo was on his feet immediately, heading towards her with knife in hand to dispatch whoever or whatever might be harming her (if any hair on her head was disturbed, he knew it would be the last of him). But he couldn’t see her. She wasn’t in view. Something had happened.

Rolo’s eyes scanned the beach and the water until a familiar head of brown and curly hair was seen amongst the waves. Without thought, he tossed his knife aside and dove in. A few strokes later, he was able to pull her up above the water, only to find that she wasn’t breathing.

He was torn. Let her die, like he wanted? Already, she was on her way to death, her lips turning blue from the water she had swallowed. Or save her, administering the needed life saving procedure that would bring life back to her lungs? If he wanted to keep in Lelouch’s favor, the answer was obvious.

He hauled her to shore, kicking hard against the current of the waves that had pulled her into the water, until the reached the sand. Once there, he set her on her back and began CPR. A shudder of repulsion went through his body as he pressed his lips to hers each time he blew in air (a kiss, but not a kiss. He never wanted to kiss her. His lips were for Lelouch only). Finally, she coughed, lungs forcing out the water which she vomited onto the sand next to them. Then, she gasped, eyes slowly opening to look up at Rolo.

“You saved me…” She murmured in that voice that was so soft and quiet, that he hated so much.

Rolo scoffed and looked away, trying to keep from letting his revulsion show too much. But then there were arms around his neck, pulling him closer. Color rose to his cheeks and he choked, too surprised as the lips that were previously blue pressed to his cheek.

“Thank you, Rolo-nii-chan!”

That was how Lelouch found them, hurrying back when he had thought he had seen Rolo hurting his precious little sister, only to find that said sister was hugging the life out of a very confused and embarrassed Rolo.

The look Lelouch gave Rolo when Nunnally had explained how a sneaker wave had almost washed her a way, if Rolo hadn’t saved her, was one Rolo knew he’d never forget. A mixture of appreciation tinted with a tiny dose of trust and an even smaller bit of care. Rolo stored it in his mind, never wanting to let it go. And if gaining trust and love from Lelouch was the result of saving Nunnally, Rolo figured he’d have to find ways of saving her more often. Of course, he ignored the part of him that also said he enjoyed the gentle kiss he received from her because that was clearly not him at all.
